id have to say you exploited a bug, doing the exact same thing today does not result in that, as it gives me steps for touching the portals, or it doesnt speed me up any when falling, resulting in me hitting the side of the elevator (giving even more steps)

This is not a true indication of how one clears this level with less then eleven portals. I have got as far as 12 by staying near the elevator.

This is a solution for least steps. Thisa level is solvable with 2 portals.

It’s a great but a very hard method. There are easier.
